Megan Bowles, (CIYT Level 2) trains with senior teachers John Schumacher, Patricia Walden, and Lois Steinberg. Megan’s style is warm, humorous, and precise, and she loves helping all levels of yoga practitioners access the benefits of yoga. Megan is certified by Dr. Loren Fishman to teach Yoga for Osteoporosis. She has assisted him in his Yoga for Osteoporosis teacher trainings. Megan has taught individuals with osteoporosis weekly for more than 10 years and has seen her students gain bone mass, strength, mobility, and confidence. Megan began attending Iyengar Yoga classes at Unity Woods Yoga Center when pregnant. She recalls being in class in a supported pose and realizing that she had never before felt so good in body and mind. At that moment, she decided to study Iyengar yoga for the rest of her life. After giving birth, she started with Level 1 classes at Unity Woods and has never looked back. Megan was lucky enough to receive teacher training first from Karin O’Bannon and then to attend Patricia Walden’s two-year teacher training program. She also apprenticed with John Schumacher, her mentor, for years, and began teaching at Unity Woods in 2016. Megan studies therapeutics with Lois Steinberg annually. Megan began mentoring aspiring (and now certified) Iyengar yoga teachers in 2021. Megan grew up in Baldwin and Manhasset, NY. She has degrees from Columbia College (BA) and New York University (MBA). Her love of the North Fork began in childhood when she visited Mattituck, where her grandparents owned a home, to which they ultimately retired and in which her parents now live. She spent time in Mattituck regularly and more and more of her family has settled on the North Fork over the years. She and her husband are delighted to live here full-time after years of summers and extended visiting. In addition to yoga, Megan loves Shakespeare and anti-racism work.
