ELLIE HERMAN BARRE METHOD AND PILATES PROGRAM In the 1930’s, Joseph Pilates pioneered his namesake discipline on the Mat and on various equipment which he invented to strengthen the center, lengthen the spine, increase body awareness, build muscle tone and gain flexibility. The Pilates technique develops strong abdominal & postural muscles to support the skeletal system and act as the “powerhouse” of the body.
Ellie Herman has further developed the system reflecting her eclectic background in yoga, gymnastics, dance and Chinese medicine. Pilates develops a strong center which helps alleviate back pain, prevents injury, & improves performance in all aspects of life. Ellie Herman Barre Methodis a smart, dynamic workout that combines functional exercise with basic dance moves, Pilates mat and Springboard exercises. Brooklyn Barre incorporates props including yoga block, yoga blanket, Gertie Ball, and Theraband. Brooklyn Barre classes are safe for all ages and populations.

Ilissa Shapiro and Joan Ferraro teach strong and intelligent mat pilates classes. Joan has enjoyed a career in fitness for over 25 years. her diverse certifications include formats in cardio, weight training, barre, HIIT and yoga. A Southold weekender, Joan teaches during the week at Equinox clubs, where she also serves asa group fitness manager for the 44th street location. Joan received her 200 yoga teacher training certificate from Pure Yoga and 100 hour restorative yoga training with Mary Aranas.
Ilissa Shapiro received her full apparatus and Pilates mat certification from Pilates Institute of America (500 Hours) and Bachelors degree from FAU. Ilissa started her professional career in Marketing but moved out of the corporate world to pursue her passion in fitness. She has been an instructor for 10 years in Palm Beach, FL & Shelter Island, NY. Ilissa has worked with many athletes, dancers, equestrians & golfers. Ilissa is thrilled to be able to bring her teaching to the North Fork so her clients look and feel great. She brings positive energy to every session & is known for dynamic result oriented workout.
